After the fall of communism Maria had an opportunity to broaden her education and take legal courses in Free University in West Berlin, Germany. Soon after, she made New York her home and volunteered for the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights and worked in the New York City Law Department.

Maria and her husband, Lee, are the proud parents of their 19 year old daughter Anna, an accomplished classical pianist, who graduated from New York Public Schools and is a freshman at McGill University in Montreal. The family believes that New York provides a rich intellectual and cultural environment and ethnic diversity offering countless opportunities for children and is the best place in the world to raise a family.

Maria dedicates her free time to her hobby of training and showing her three prize winning AKC Champions Hungarian Pointers (Vizslas) under the kennel name “Kirsanoff’s”. Her dogs will be appearing again this year at the Westminster Dog Show at Madison Square Garden competing with the top ranking dogs in the country.
